maθé comes from the Medieval Greek maθé, imperative form of the verb maθéno ‘to learn’, with an influence of the imperatives ðes ‘see’, pes ‘say’ (Papanis & Papanis 2004˙ Ralli 2017).
E.g. kátsi maθé na si ðo kumát.
káθise maθé na se ðo komáti.
‘As a matter of fact, stay a bit more to see you’.
