éftus comes from the Medieval Greek aftós ‘he, this one’ (Ralli 2017). By confusion with the Lesbian local adverb éftu ‘there’, it has also assumed the meaning of ‘that one’.

E.g. éftus én íni mi ta sustá t.
éftos ðen íne me ta sostá tu.
‘This/that man is insane’.
